Inspiré d’un fait divers remontant aux années 1950, le film raconte l’histoire de François (Chico) Tremblay, Québécois moyen ayant appartenu à la pègre locale et qui se retrouve confronté à la toute-puissante mafia américaine. Plus qu’un thriller, le film revêt une signification sociale et idéologique qui rend possible une lecture à plusieurs niveaux et permet l’analyse sociopolitique d’un phénomène urbain : le gangstérisme québécois.

Inspired by a true story from the 1950s, the film tells the tale of François (Chico) Tremblay, an average Quebecer with ties to the local underworld who finds himself facing the all-powerful American mafia. More than just a thriller, the film carries a social and ideological weight that allows for a multi-layered interpretation and enables a socio-political analysis of an urban phenomenon: Quebec gangsterism.
